The statement by YCLSA Gauteng province is correct and in line with our revolutionary principles of organizational discipline. I find some of the media statements made by some of the leaders of the Youth League in Gauteng very disturbing and promoting factionalism. Indeed the leaders of our movement are similarly equal to the task, and we should not seek to insinuate that some individuals are bigger than the organization. The principle on deployment was adopted in Polokwane, and the NEC of the ANC has adhered to the very same principle in deciding on the deployment of Premiers in various provinces. When the 3 preferred premier candidates were submitted by ANC Gauteng province, it was reported in the media that apparently it was said that Cde Chairperson of Gauteng was the preferred candidate. I think this kind of approach augers against the principle adopted in Polokwane, because the principle says that the province must nominate three equally capable comrades for premiership. Therefore none of the candidates should serve the purpose of merely legitimizing the appointment of the other. The media reports that the ANCYL in Gauteng has allegedly spoken out against the decision of the NEC are indeed disturbing. It is my belief that the Youth League comrades in Gauteng actively participated in the process of selecting the 3 names submitted to the NEC, and actually they were key drivers of this process. It is now surprising that it is reported in the media that the very same Youth League is not happy with the decision.
It is therefore crucial that we all rally behind the newly appointed Premier, Cde Nomvula, in steering the Gauteng province towards improved service delivery for the masses of our people. The Young Communist League of South Africa in Gauteng province notes and welcomes the decision of ANC NEC to appoint Comrade Nomvula Mokonyane as its preferred Premier candidate for the province. As the YCLSA in Gauteng we do not doubt the decision taken by the ANC NEC to appoint Cde Mokonyane for the Premiership position. However, we note that there are those amongst our structures whose tongues are littered with malice which seeks to undermine and ridicule the decision of the NEC. We view their actions as reflection of political immaturity and ill discipline informed by personal interests and egos. It should be understood that to be the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC does not guarantee one an automatic ticket be the Premier. This should serve as a call to the Alliance leadership to formulate a structured discussion as we approach 2014 on deployments to key strategic centers of power and influence. It is our understanding as the YCLSA in Gauteng that Alliance formations are equal and any amongst these formations we can provide a President or Premier. We call on the structures of the ANC Alliance in the province to rally behind the decision of the NEC and defeat politically those who undermine the political authority of the NEC. When the ANC PEC submitted the three names to the NEC it made a statement that all the candidates were equally competent for the position to carry the task of the ANC with diligence including the Premiership. The YCLSA in Gauteng will continue to build a strong, united and progressive Alliance in the province as part of ensuring that the ANC led Alliance governments continues to meet the needs and demands of our people, especially the working class and the poor.
