I do not believe that the primary purpose of the forum was to be a platform for show-casing ones intelligence capacity but to frankly engage as comrades in a process of "each one teach one", so in essence we all learning as we go along. For example I have hardly seen topics where comrades are asking on issues that pertain to state of affairs. For example I have been pondering a perception held by many of our comrades that Polokwane (resolutions/leadership) represented an indication or shift to the left. I have tried to gather evidence as I have been entertaining this question, but I can't seem to find any substantial support that Polokwane was a shift of some sort. Surely it was a meaningful victory against the 1996 class project and its perspective. But I fail to see huge or radical change in how things have been happening. I have asked this question even to ANC senior comrades like Cde Ben Turok and Jeremy Cronin and they cite that ANC has found it difficult to move towards the left and cited several reasons for that. To cde Jeremy one of the most important things about Polokwane was the fact that people (ordinary members) still had control of the organization and clearly stipulated that leadership is there to facilitate what ordinary people were saying. To me the only major changes will be limited on the focus continuing economic growth, managing the recession, more emphasis on service delivery than an ideological shift. Mr. A.L. Bewana MSc.
