Over the years the management of CPUT has continued to abuse and victimise student leadership. Even more, this year there are hungry for our blood, this is after the SRC took on a 3 day mass action early in May across 3 campuses as a result of detoriating student services and incresing fees.
Today we have just learnt that 17 of our SRC's including Myself are suspended, without any outline of the charges against us. All that the communique says is "Due to the seriousness of these allegations, you and other student leaders have been suspended from pursuing SRC activities including signing documents or representing SRC at any level with immediate effect, from today, Tuesday 23 June 2009, pending investigation and the outcome of a Disciplinary process which will be effected as soon as possible". I am no "legal guru" but i am sure the constitution of the country clearly states you are innocent until proven guilty, and I have a right to be presented with allergations/ charges before any legal action is taken against me. Just over a month ago the SRC was invited to a HIV/Aids workshop by the HIV/Aids unit in the institution. Its at this very same workshop that we SRC supposedly broke the rules of the instituion. We are yet to recieve a communique clearly stating those wrong doings. This amount of cheap intimidation by management is really getting old and tiring, we are sick of the incompetence of the mangement of the institution. We want serious change now, the VC must leave..in her 5 years of running the institution she has done more dis-service that delivery. This leadership made a vow that "we are ready to hold a bull by its horn and sleep with a haenna in defence of the revolution".
