This appetite for spending public funds whilst people are still new in office is of course a cause for concern as pointed out below. When a person starts showing their obsession with luxury like this,no comitment to serve can be expected from them.I know the ANC did not make the 2/3 majority so that it could change the constitution.Currently it allows the President to appoint whomever it so wishes to occupy a public office. The RSA constitution has always been totued as a democratic document by the media and opposition parties and they always say it needs to be defended. One wonders against what or who should this be defended.
Obviously the document has a class bias and it is those whom it favours that need it defended. The majority who do not even no the book or just hear about its existence not its contents,do not care about its effects in their every day lives. This document will always be the bible to be used by opportunists to justify their actions or lack thereof and also to take advantage of the naivety of the majority of the people of RSA.Perhaps Unions like Nehawu below need to explore this book and its advantages against the workers and the majority of the people who are poor in our country. This should be done in national, provincial and local government, as well as in public entities and state enterprises, it said in a statement after its central executive committee met on Friday. Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga recently both spent over R1-million each on new official cars. Nehawu said it would work with the government to fight corruption and nepotism in the public service. "If any of our members are found to be in violation of the law within the public service, the authorities must take decisive and appropriate disciplinary action." It said the health system was in "crisis" and that the government needed to deal swiftly with immediate challenges, especially in hospitals. It supported Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi's process of evaluating public hospital managers. "In this regard, we demand that the report must be made public and the minister must act decisively on appointments that are irregular, especially where there are unsuitably appointed hospital managers with track records of mismanagement and incompetence." The union also reiterated its support for the proposed national health insurance scheme and called for the implementation of an ANC resolution, taken at the party's elective conference in Polokwane, to create a state-owned pharmaceutical company. CONTINUES BELOW Nehawu congratulated the SA Municipal Workers' Union on the outcome of the recent strike. An agreement to end the five-day strike by municipal workers was signed on Friday afternoon after the union and the SA Local Government Association settled on a 13% wage hike and a 20% increase for the lowest paid workers. - Sapa NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at: http://www.treasury.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You are subscribed.
