Dear Editor/Fellow Comrades
We hereby wish to challenge the Honorable Member of Parliament (Ian Ollis, DA
Shadow Deputy Minister of Labour) on his mischievous and narrow
misrepresentation of the SACP/YCL position on Labour Brokering in the The STAR
(22 December 2009, Page 11 titled “SACP ,YCL missing point on labour broking”);
a new form of modern slavery for the working class. I don’t know and maybe Ian
Ollis was a delegate at the SACP Congress! From which branch were you
delegated? Perhaps; you were present in all discussions hiding in the
conference hall?
For the record;  the YCL National Secretary, Cde Buti Manamela said” we want to
reiterate our call for the complete banning of labour brokers as slave masters”
and further said “YCL will mobilize youth of our country to take law into their
hands and shut down every office and car where you operate”. I’m surprised to
read on what the honorable member has written; maybe he is getting pressure
from the constituency that he represent; whom they bluffed to say they will
protect them on labour brokers!
We stand by what SACP/YCL and COSATU have said during the Parliamentary
submissions by saying” Labour Brokers do not guarantee job security and away a
share of worker’s wages (thus concentrating this share as their profits); that
they undermine the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and
the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
Many of the victims are the youth who are forever under-employed and/or made to
be scab labour and temporary for the entire part of their employment. Amongst
the 700 000 workers in this country( 14% of them are currently under labour
brokers) and it is sad that the majority remains amongst the black working
class majority(without raising the race card)but; it is true due to the legacy
of apartheid!
Inputs were made by ANCYL, YCL, COSATU and other formations and we are content
that the majority view is that labour brokers needs to be outlawed and banned
in this country. Your assertion that “we are hearing emotional rhetoric which
does nothing for South Africa” is untrue and shallow.Maybe; we need to ask you
where is your daughter or son employed? (Without  being personal!)You will find
that they are handsomely looked after and our sisters and brothers bear the
harsh brunt of this barbaric act in our lifetime and modern day.
We need to campaign for its total ban. It's quite surprising that during this
last quarter of this year DA made a loud noise in parliament on the usage of
labour brokers in SAPS and you eloquently attacked the Ministry for such acts
and yet now you somersault on what was said by Cde Buti Manamela.
What a blasphemy! Who stand to benefit? Obviously big business and capitalists
(majority members of DA) at the expense of the workers of this country.
What is to outlaw? And what is to regulate?DA speaks out regulating and
SACP/YCL has amplified outlawing of these lumpens!
Down with labour brokers! We are contend that the SACP/YCL is on the right path
to achieve all sites of struggles for the working class and Together let’s
Fight Capitalist Greed and Corruption, Together, Build Socialism!
