Comrades, Although earlier I criticized COSATU -- and that criticism remains --
there is no reason to remain to stay in one place. Polokwane gave us direction
which was repeated inthe ANC election manifesto and taken further by the Green
Paper. The discussion paper produced by the SACP leadership gave us further
guidelines on the question of organisation at grassroots level. We have now
produced a programme in line with the concept of the National Democratic
Revolution; even if we have disagreements here and there, we now need to
implement that programme at every level. Personal insults to people like Lucas,
who I do not personally believe is worth answering, will not take us forward.
SASCO produced an excellent document on that. Whilst primarily going amongst
the people to further our programme, we neede to engage the ANCYL on the
question of nationalisation. Read their document and criticize and debate in a
constructive and comradely way. Indeed, we need nationalisation at some
stage, but as comrades have correctly pointed out previously, nationalisation
and socialisation are linked but not identical. Most importantly, when it is
done it must be done efficiently and effectively. So let us stop personal
attacks, ignore provocateurs, step up our groudwork and discuss theory. BUT
don't forget, if it's not practical it's not Marxist!!
