Dear Comrades It is my humble view that this issue between the ACYL and journalists should be properly analysed and debated. I am of the opinion that we should desist from defending journalists when we know certainly that their conduct of late has brought a lot to worry about.
While I do not think it is ok to attack and intimidate journalists, I equally think we are not certain about their complaints - firstly it is the very journalists who used the National Intelegence Agency to investigate leaders of the movement, it is the same journalists who reports on issues including very personal; matters relating to our leaders without indicating or telling who is their source - as to what has been secured as per personal information about journalists by the Youth League is imaterial in my view as of now. When journalists used the name of the current President of the country and the ANC very madly and in a silly manner, nobody suggested that we deal with those journalists. When they sensationally lied about Cde Zwelinzima Vavi on his personal life, the General Secretary of the SACP, Cde Blade Nzimande, still our loudest silence got dominant within our structures and discussion forums. We are not defenders of capitalist journalists who normally masquirade as independent journalists while in practice they behave like bourgeouis thinking tanks in defense of purely counter revolutionary forces. The other issue that comes to mind is the issue of the manner in which opposition parties uses the same media to attack us and the Youth League, notwithstanding its current intentions of behaving as if they are political celebrities while they are not as nothing like that exist in our movement. I have for many years now believing in the spirit of " Supporting everything that the enemy oppose and opposing everything that the enemy supports". So I will never share the same bed with the DA and all other opposition parties and I will never behave as if I am just a bureaucrat or independent intelectual I am not and I wish never to be. For me and in my opinion, I will defend Julius Malema and the ANCYL as long as they are not attacking the movement and its leaders. If they attack the SACP, COSATU and the YCL-SA I will never hesistate to defend the most trustworthy organisations of the working class and the poor. That is why I think it is correct that we all advance the view expressed by the NEC that no one should recklessly as the YL has done attack each other in public. The same applies on the question of SASCO supporting the Afriforum and its drummajoretts on the equality court decision regarding Cde Julius. I think this issue should be dealt with as per the suggestion by Cde Gugu, that SASCO should be in a position to explain as thier position regarding this matter - I personally think at time we seem to have fell into a very similar trap of liking the media to an extend of making statements even when it is not neccessary - let us allowe normal processes to unfold before we make statements - this is a very poor communication strategy it actually compromises the unity of our movement and plays on the desks of political journalists just to open our mouths and making our voices heard while we leave the working class and the poor to struggle daily for basic services. Hoping and trusting that we are not opening up to personalised attacks on ourselves - journalist or not journalists Malema and the YL are our cadres and being wrong or saying things that we do not agree with does not mean we should join the forces of counter revolution to kill them - Kaizer Mohau -- You are subscribed.
