Terre'Blanche controversial in life, death *5 April 2010, 16:38* Various political formations have conveyed their condolences to the Terre'Blanche family after AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche was allegedly killed by his workers over a wage dispute. However, the messages have not been without controversy as the man himself was before he was killed on Saturday.
The SACP said it received the news of the right wing movement's leader with regret and shock. "For years he has been a controversial figure and outspoken against the transformation project and national reconciliation. To this end the SACP had fundamental differences with his views," the party said on Monday. "Be that as it may, no matter what differences we may have with individuals and their political beliefs, murder has no space in our society and is not a solution to any of our problems." Meanwhile, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) pulled no punches, calling Terre'Blanche "a symbol of racist rule and demagogue". "It is our legitimate and considered view that Terre'Blanche should not be honoured and praised by the State on behalf of the people and of our country." On the other hand, AfriForum Youth asked the police task team investigating the murder to determine whether the suspects have any ties with the ANC Youth League (ANCYL). AfriForum Youth leader Ernst Roets asked ANCYL leader Julius Malema to reconsider his "indifferent reaction" to circumstances in the country and his "obstinate attitude" to the 'Shoot the Boer' song urgently. "All eyes are on Julius Malema now. He persists in creating a climate in which murder and violence based on racial and ethnic grounds are being encouraged," said Roets. -- You are subscribed.
