*All media are invited to the public autographing of a Bafana replica jersey to Red Card xenophobia* *24 May 2010* The President of the *National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa*(Numsa) *Cedric Gina,* on behalf of the National Executive Committee of Numsa invites members of the media and the general public to the autographing of a Bafana Bafana replica jersey. The public autograph of the Bafana jersey is part of our campaign to re-claim soccer as a working class sport in South Africa and the continent, geared towards fostering solidarity, peace, friendship and elimination of racial, class and tribal divides. The public autographing of the Bafana replica jersey coincides with the celebrations of Africa Day (25 May 2010) and it will also be 15 days before the official kick-off of the World Cup. To the majority of metalworkers in our country and the continent the World Cup should be about *‘Red Card – Xenophobia’*. This is informed by our view that xenophobia, entrenched by the barbaric capitalist system, has the potential to divide and defocus the working class from its core struggles and programmes. Therefore soccer as a working class sport provides us a platform to raise consciousness amongst our people to nip in the bud xenophobia.
