INVITE TO A PLANNING MEETING FOR A PROTEST AGAINST THE 2010 FORTUNE/TIME/CNN
GLOBAL FORUM IN CAPE TOWN

DATE: Thursday 10th June

TIME: 2pm

VENUE: COMMUNITY HOUSE, 41 SALT RIVER ROAD

>From the 26th to the 28th of June the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
>will be hosting a meeting with CEOs from the biggest corporations in the world
>at the ICC in Cape Town, to discuss business opportunities for them in the
>developing world.

The Chairpersons and CEOs from companies such as Citigroup, Coca-Cola, Daimler,
Deutsche Bank, General Electric, Royal Dutch Shell, and Rio Tinto have already
confirmed their attendance.

These companies have a long history of exploiting people and workers around the
world. Coca-Cola has been implicated in the murders of trade unionists in
places such as Colombia. General Electric has benefited directly from the wars
in Afghanistan and Iraq. Rio Tinto has left massive amounts of pollution in its
wake from its operations in the ‘developing’ world. Perhaps the most notorious
company attending is Shell, which has been involved in human rights abuses and
environmental destruction in the Niger Delta.

We plan to have a protest against this meeting, the companies involved and the
Department of Trade and Industry to tell them we don’t want these companies or
their exploitation. They have already done enough damage to our communities!
For this reason we invite all organizations to the planning meeting to be held
at Community House in order to organise the protest
