mchana, i like not to sound negative but i have my own reservation when it
comes to this issue of Gel. Frankly this Gel thing, to me, notwithstanding it
sounds like one disaster thing. I'll provide my reasons as i go down.
I do work with young people
day in and day out, and for your information most of them they do defy the uses
of female condoms, you know why? It is for the mere reason that it need to
inserted in a period of 8 hours before a sexual intercourse. And bear in mind
that either male or female condom, the fact remains is: one round one condom.

prevention to that of circumcision.
Circumcision does minimise the infection of Hiv/Aids at the rate of about 60%
during sexual intercourse, and tenofovis gel prevent at the rate of 39% of
which it is even lesser than 50%. My
argument is thus: 1. Tenofovis gel does 't have the
side-effects, in both the user and someone whome will sleep with the user?
Hence it does apply in a period of 12 hours. 2. Like i mentioned
earlier on, in regard to condoms, one round one condom. Does it need a girl to
wash rightaway after the intercourse, and with what exactly? Is there any
liquid to be assist? 3. Logically, it clearly claimes that
a gel is one of contraceptive, will it be stupid enough to use male condom
together with the gel? hence a gel is 39% less infection, it doesn't warrante
ones safety. 4. Will the government afford to provide it to the
working classes? Without
any doubt of fear i thus i agree with your suggestion, of which i bellow quoted

matter that i do not acknowledge the work done by our scientist but of having a

action. It's a contradict one can't run-away from or ignores.

Let us commend SA scientists for the work they have done to discover this
gel, this is a great stride may be towards getting HIV cure one day.
Having to note that this gel gives 39% prevention during sexual
intercourse, NOT 100% PREVENTION.
Frankly, I have reservations when it comes to youth decision making in
terms of safe sex, condom use to be in particular. My experience tells me
that those who use condom do not use it consistently. How much more when
one can afford to buy a gel? We have to explain until today that
circumcision is not a 100% prevention but only minimises chances for
contraction or getting infected.
My strong suggestion to young people or every one sexually active is TO
CONTINUE USING CONDOM CONSISTENTLY. Let the gel be the last line of
defence in situations beyond one's control. It is NOT intended to replace
a CONDOM.
