Maqabane It would be unscientific - in fact foolish - to respond positively to the call to boycott nominations. The SABC is one institution we have to contest so media becomes a tool for educating, informing and empowering again. Now the question then becomes, other than the stipulated requirements, what other qualities do we have to look in each person that we seek to nominate? I think answering this question would assist in re-addressing content in our public broadcaster. One is really perplexed as to why do we have to be consistently fed Eurocentric rubbish as is the order of the day currently! How many aspiring producers from around Africa and the Diaspora do we have out there who are capable of telling the African story instead of the SABC forcing us to watch Days, Bold, etc? Let's engage

The call for a boycott in this instance is highly irresponsible and reckless and must not be supported. Instead the SACP calls upon all progressive and working class organisations to nominate people for the filling of the vacant board positions at the SABC. The SACP hopes the Minister and the Portfolio Committee on Communications will leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of the seemingly perpetual instability at the SABC.
