Former Cosatu deputy president dies in car crashApr 21, 2011 5:59 PM| By ------------------------------ Former Congress of SA Trade Unions deputy president George Nkadimeng died in a car accident near Mpumalanga. ------------------------------
Nkadimeng had a "long and distinguished" career, said SA Revenue Service (SARS) spokesman Adrian Lackay. He had been employed at SARS since May 2006 and held the position of executive manager of employment relations. "George's sudden passing is a major set back to SARS, where he has been the chief negotiator on labour matters," Lackay said. Nkadimeng was the first deputy president of Cosatu from 1994 until 1996. Before working at SARS, Nkadimeng served as Telkom's employee relations executive. Lackay extended SARS' condolences to Nkadimeng's family. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) said in a statement that Nkadimeng's "ideological correctness" was crucial in the socio-political climate facing South Africa currently. "His departure is a sad blow to Cosatu and the liberation movement as a whole," spokesman Castro Ngobese said. He said that Nkadimeng's death should instill democratic and communist principles in shopstewards in the trade union movement. -- You are subscribed. This footer can help you.
