YCL celebrates 90th anniversary of the SACP The Young Communist League of South Africa [Ufasimba ] extends its unwavering commendation to the South African Communist Party as it celebrates 90 years of uninterrupted struggle for socialism in our country and the world. So profound is the role of the SACP in the struggle for national liberation compressed within the strategic goal of building socialism as the most humane economic system. It behooves us as the YCLSA to pride ourselves for being part of this Marxist-Leninist party, the oldest in Africa and with rich history in the struggle for national liberation and socialism in Southern Africa and beyond. If it was not for the SACP, our conviction to advance the socialist orientation of the National Democratic Revolution and thereby radicalizing the African National Congress in the late 1920’s would have not been sustained. As we give revolutionary praises to the Party we are pleased to acknowledge its growth in terms of membership from around 50 000 in the last 12th National Congress 2007 to more than 130 000 currently. We doff our hats to the living memories of the founding fathers and other outstanding leaders of the Party like Bill W. H Andrews, David Ivon Jones, Rebecca Bunting, S P Bunting, Albert Nzula, J La Guma, Johannes Nkosi, DG Walton, W Nkosi, Moses Kotane, J B Marks, Moses Mabida, Joe Slovo, Chris Hani and many others. We respect the above mentioned leaders because they had never disowned the Party or it programs as it was a case with others after the collapse of the USSR, in the words of Fidel Castro “There are people who would rather die of opportunism before remembering that they were once members of a Communist Party, who are afraid of the immense honor of having belonged to a Communist Party. Because being a member of a Communist Party - regardless of errors that the Party may have committed- will always be a great honor. Belonging to the Party of the poor is not the same as joining the parties and clubs of the millionaires and plunderers.” As the Young Communist League of South Africa we will mobilize all young people to join the Party on its celebration, the following are some of our resolved activities, which will be addressed by the National Secretary of YCLSA, comrade Buti Manamela *SACP/SADTU Provincial annual lecture* Venue: SADTU House Durban, 321 Smith Street Date: Wednesday, July 27 Time: 14h00 *Event: Harry Gwala memorial lecture* Venue: DUT PMB compass, Indumiso Date: Thursday, July 28 Time: 17h00 * Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign* Venue: MUT Durban Emlazi (Mangosuthu University of Technology) Date: Friday July 29 Time: 11h00 *SACP 90th anniversary celebration Mini Rally* Venue: University of Zulu land (UniZulu) Date: Friday, July 29 Time: 16h00 The National Secretary will also address the National Rally together with SACP General Secretary Cde.
