*Press Statement*

*It is not Nzimande who is on fire, but ill-disciplined elements *

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] notes with disgust
that a small group of uncultured hooligans out of ignorance decided to burn
posters with the face of the General Secretary of the Party [SACP] comrade
Blade Nzimande, in the so called ‘night vigil’ organized to support Julius
Malema.

We further note that some of the people involved in this act were wearing
YCL T-shirts parading themselves as communists and subsequent to this
counter-revolutionary act is that some of media houses reported that comrade
Blade Nzimade is on fire. This to us is a joke for it is not Nzimande who is
before the disciplinary committee; it is not Nzimande who is facing
corruption allegations. It is also not Nzimade who is having a dark cloud
hanging over his head, thus he can not be on fire.

The General Secretary of the Party is not involved in the current
developments as it relates to the disciplinary hearing of the ANCYL
officials. He is not spending sleepless nights like others who are not
sleeping trying to mobilize the ANC membership against the ANC itself. It
was the ANC not the SACP which took disciplinary actions against these
individuals. Our SACP must never be dragged into the mud. As YCLSA we refuse
to believe that being militant means attacking the ANC and its
leadership. We reject “radicalism” which is divorced from revolutionary
discipline.

The ANC in our view can only sustain its prestige dignity if it purges
itself of counter-revolutionary elements and factionalism. The source of
factionalism in the organization is ill-discipline and opportunism. The task
faced by the ANC of leading transformation in our country desires a strong
and united ANC. It needs the ANC that has moral authority in society,
publicly challenging the ANC is counter-revolutionary, burning its flag is
counter-revolutionary, burning the t-shit of its President and projecting
individuals as super revolutionaries, above the ANC, limit its fighting
strength. It will make our people lose confidence in the ANC, thus in our
view this is the most reactionary conduct that requires the ANC to purge
itself of wrong tendencies if it is to succeed in its historical mission.

Those who penetrate the revolutionary movement and introduce onto it the
spirit of hesitancy and opportunism, the spirit of demoralization and
uncertainty are counter revolutionaries. It is they, principally, that
constitute the source of factionalism and disintegration, the source of
disorganization and disruption of the organisation from within. To fight for
the radical transformation of our country with such elements amongst
ourselves, is to fight a losing battle. Therefore, a ruthless struggle
against such elements, their expulsion from the organisation, is a
prerequisite for the successful National Democratic Revolution.

The move taken by the ANC to instill discipline is necessary and a correct
one. If we do not restore order in our movement now, the glorious movement
of President OR Tambo will be paralysed by chronic infirmity and
opportunism, leaving South Africans without a revolutionary organisation.
The ANC can only succeed in achieving internal unity and unexampled cohesion
on its ranks if it purges itself of the opportunist pollution. A
Revolutionary movement becomes stronger by purging itself of ill-discipline
elements.

In line with this understanding we call upon the ANC leadership to take
drastic action against those who burned the photos bearing the faces of the
ANC President and the ANC NWC member and the Party General Secretary comrade
Blade Nzimande. Already these individuals are on fire and think that by
burning the face of our leaders they will escape organisational corrective
measures. It is not comrade Blade Nzimande who is on fire but
ill-disciplined elements.
