POPCRU notes the Correction’s Week for Offenders

POPCRU has noted the launch of Correction’s Week by the Department of
Correctional Services which resumed at Zonderwater Correctional Centre, geared
towards enhancing social reintegration and skills development to benefit the
offender population.

During the recent 07th National Congress, we deliberated on re-engineering of
offender labour which we argue must be packaged, to rehabilitate holistically
all men and women behind bars to prepare them a sound life after incarceration,
with secured opportunities through engagements with the business community
after release.

POPCRU resolved to be part of the engagement of the communities on serious
issues around the full implementation of restorative justice, to smoothen
reintegration of those who successfully went through rehabilitation processes
to be re-united with their family members and the society at large.

Humanization of all mankind must embrace social reintegration and social
cohesion. And we applaud the men and women in all the 239 Correctional Centres
across the country on the revolutionary collegiality they display against all
odds to humanize their fellow brothers and sisters.
