ANC YOUTH LEAGUE WELCOMES NUMSA’S SUPPORT FOR THE ECONOMIC FREEDOM YOUTH MASS
ACTION:

19 October 2011

The ANC Youth League welcomes and appreciates the support the National Union of
Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) declared for the ANC Youth League Economic
Freedom Youth Mass Action. We are inspired and further agitated that this
gallant Union of metalworkers, known for consistency on principle and
uncompromising militancy has publicly supported the mass action for economic
freedom in our lifetime.

What is more relieving and inspirational from NUMSA’s support is that the Union
gives political and ideological reasons on why the mass action should be
supported. Consistent with its commitment to the Freedom Charter and National
Democratic Revolution, NUMSA did not degenerate into petty politics of labels,
casting of aspersions, and spreading conspiracies about the programme which the
entire National liberation movement should pursue.

The ANC Youth League welcomes this resounding support and will mobilise more
organisations, formations and individuals to support the struggle for economic
freedom in our lifetime. Petty jealousies, bickering, howling, spreading of
lies, labels and all sorts of things done in the National Liberation Movement
do not help the cause for total emancipation of the black majority and Africans
in particular, because as NUMSA correctly quotes the ANC 1969 Strategy &
Tactics, “

it is inconceivable for liberation to have meaning without a return of the
wealth of the land to the people as a whole. It is therefore a fundamental
feature of our strategy that victory must embrace more than formal political
democracy”.

All progressive forces of change must unite and confront capital. It is now
or never. Victory is certain.

Still bubbling!

It should be clear what led to such crisis and what has to be done, not
sympathy as it has been the case. Are we going to statements instead of policy
directives?

COSATU in NW is losing its character, and consistently fades away. The level of
Working Class Consciousness its worrying where real aspects of workers are not
been addressed but compromised while in the face value impression exhibited by
labour aristocrats is that they are up in hand against dominating class, which
remains fallacy.

Its painstaking to learn that workers in this province no longer want to
associate themselves with COSATU particularly understewardship of Provincial
Secretary. I appeal that he consider addressing real aspects of workers than
petty and narrow minded objectives of counter-revolutionaries.

I am still shocked, obvious through utterances made by PS and the current
resignations from unions and considering joining opposing trade unions. Its sad
and so sad.

I pause!

Vanguard.

COSATU NW demands alternative accommodation for Warders
19 October 2011
The Congress of South African Trade Union and its affiliate POPCRU has learned
with shock about the burning of 50 official quarters at the Mogwase prison.
COSATU would like to send a message of sympathy to the staff members who have
lost all their belongings.
COSATU calls on the community and the business society to assist where they can
to help these workers. We also want to thank the Sun City management for
assisting with beds for those workers who lost all that belongs to them
including IDs, bank cards, clothes and many other important things.
COSATU calls on the department of correctional services to provide all the
staff members with alternative accommodation until the situation has been
restored to normal. COSATU further calls on the department of labour to do an
inspection in the area and that all workers must refuse to stay in an unsafe
place; all workers who are affected must be taken for counselling by a
qualified person.
We are also calling the management of the correctional service to stop its
attitude against workers by forcing workers to stay in unsafe places. The
safety of our members and their lives come first.
For more information feel free to call COSATU NW Provincial secretary Solly
Phetoe [0823044055]
