REMINDER: NUMSA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) MEETS 28 October 2011
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is holding its National Executive Committee (NEC) as from today Friday 28 October 2011 - until - Sunday 30 October 2011, Vincent Mabuyakhulu Conference Centre, Cnr Bree and Gerard Sekota Streets, Newtown, Gauteng province. The purpose of the NEC is to receive political, organizational, international, and progress reports on the Programme of Action (PoA) as adopted by the 8th National Congress. The NEC will have a thorough discussions on the following issues; 1. The inter-class contestations of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), and threats posed by the New Tendency to undermine Polokwane resolutions and key priority areas of the ANC-led Alliance government Programme to drive decent jobs, fight corruption, make education work; 2. The tactical battles that need to be waged to contest the neoliberal posture of the National Treasury through popular mass action on the streets; 3. Rebuilding and strengthening of the two leading working class formations, SACP and COSATU, to lead popular working class struggles; 4. Response to the Mid-term Budget Policy Speech by Minister of Finance Pravin Gordham; 5. Consolidation of recently held Jobs Conference resolutions and detailed plan of action; 6. The critical analysis of South Africa's Labour Courts role in undermining hard won working class gains in cahoots with Capital; 7. The dangerous emergence of the politics of narrow nationalism and usage of money to fight factional battles in the broader Alliance structures; A post-NEC Press Conference will be convened to announce the outcomes and it will be addressed by National Office Bearers (NOB), namely General Secretary Irvin Jim, President Cedric Gina, Deputy President Phil Bokaba, Deputy President Christine Olivier, Deputy General Secretary Karl Cloete and National Treasurer Phillemon Shiburi.
