The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) mourns the passing away of Comrade Xhanti Hanothi. Comrade Hanothi passed away on Saturday 17 December 2011, after a short illness. Comrade Hanothi passes away as we prepare serious class battles to be undertaken by workers geared towards contesting the unfair and unequal redistribution of wealth at the point of production and broader society. His spirit will be with us when we demand the total ban of labour brokers informed by the ANC's 2009 electoral commitments. His immortal living ideas will be with us when we swell the streets to contest the embedded Neo-liberal posture of the National Treasury. His marveled commitment to the struggle to defeat Capitalism will continue to inspire us as we continue to struggle for a just and better Socialist South Africa led by vanguard party of the working class, the SA Communist Party (SACP). NUMSA mourns this gallant fighter and great servant of the working class. We commit ourselves to build a militant, fighting, united, vibrant and class orientated union. We will remain true to the ideals of the Freedom Charter and we will continue to champion workers interest. We will continue to rally our members behind the ANC-led Alliance, as the reliable force to achieve the goals of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR). In Comrade Hanothi, we have lost a disciplined Cadre, organizer, thinker, selfless volunteer and above all a principled cadre of our liberation movement, the ANC. We send our deep felt and sincere condolences to his family, COSATU, SACP, ANC and the entire mass democratic forces. Comrade Hanothi joins the galaxy of other great trade unionists in the land of the departed, such as Mbuyiselo Ngwenda, John Gomomo, Mthuthuzeli Tom, and Jabulile Ndlovu.
