*YCLSA Free State to hold Annual Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture.*

**

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the Free State
Province Amid the exuberance and jubilations of the ANC’s 2012 centennial
celebrations will host its annual Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture scheduled as
follows:

*Date: 06 January 2012*

*Venue: Bram Fisher Building in Bloemfontein, Free State*

*Time: 17:00pm*

**

The Memorial Lecture will be held under the theme: “Reminiscence of a
communist discipline and cerebral contribution to the 100 years of selfless
struggle”.

The lecture will be attended by members of the National Committee of the
YCL-SA, SACP Provincial leadership, ANC Provincial leadership, COSATU
Provincial leadership together with many other distinguished guests. The
public, particularly young people and members of the media are also invited
to witness this prestigious occasion.

This memorial lecture is aimed at commemorating the life and times of the
late Comrade Joe Slovo, a former General Secretary of the SACP and a long
time leader of the African National Congress. The lecture will, among other
things, focus also on the significant role of communists inside the
liberation movement and their iron discipline that has since the formation
of the Alliance ensured that the ANC lives and it leads.

Communists have over the years, been practically involved in the ANC and
continue to be an integral part of the body politic of the ANC. Again
communists have shared hundreds of platforms, in different contexts,
together with the ANC throughout its lifetime in South Africa and in many
parts of the world outside our country.

The YCLSA salutes both the ANC and SACP, particularly in the name of the
combatants who have fallen in the course of our struggle as a result of
their unwavering resilience despite many anti-communist delinquent
tendencies that have attempted to create a hegemonic block for cadres whose
school of thought is that of communism!

Notwithstanding that the Party has had to concentrate on thwarting the
efforts to destroy it, cadres of the SACP have always been ready to face
the enemy in the field. Because they have stood and fought in the front
ranks, they have been amongst those who have suffered the worst brutalities
of the enemy, and some of the best cadres have sacrificed their lives.

Former President of the ANC, the late Cde Oliver Tambo, described the
Alliance between the SACP and the ANC thus:

“The relationship between the ANC and the SACP is not an accident of
history, nor is it a natural and inevitable development. For, as we can
see, similar relationships have not emerged in the course of liberation
struggles in other parts of Africa.

To be true to history, we must concede that there have been difficulties as
well as triumphs along our path, as, traversing many decades; our two
organisations have converged towards a shared strategy of struggle. Ours is
not merely a paper alliance, created at conference tables and formalised
through the signing of documents and representing only an agreement of
leaders. Our alliance is a living organism that has grown out of struggle.”

The YCL-SA Free State encourages young people to follow in the footsteps
of such cadres of the person of Joe Slovo and swell the ranks of the ANC
and its leagues. To build cadres that are a prototype members of our
movement and relevant at all times. We are referring here to an all-round
cadre, an organic revolutionary, a person who is able to interpret
practically each message communicated to society by leading organs of the
movement.
