*Young Communist League of South Africa * *Gauteng Province welcomes the announcement of 2011/12 Matric results *
* * *Thursday, 5 January 2012* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the province of Gauteng welcomes the release today of the 2011/12 Matric results by the African National Congress (ANC) led Gauteng provincial government. We congratulate our government in general and Gauteng education department in particular for the improvement of the 2011/12 Matric results to 81% from 78.5% in 2010/11. The Gauteng provincial government has set a target of 80% pass rate by 2014. We are pleased that this has been achieved ahead of schedule. Our focus as Young Communists is 100% pass rate, which we encourage the department to work for. To all the teachers who made the 2011/12 improvement possible through intensifying the quality of teaching, in particular members of the South African Democratic Teachers Union who almost all work in difficult conditions that prevail in townships, peri-urban and rural areas within the province, we say thank you very much and put more efforts until we achieve and sustain 100% pass rate. Our appreciations also go to the stakeholders that take part in the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign as led by the Gauteng Education MEC Comrade Barbara Creecy, for making a positive contribution. This includes parents and schools governing bodies, student and youth formations such as the Young Communist League of South Africa, the latter also through its standing Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign. In particular, we would like to congratulate the 69 216 candidates who have passed out of the 85 367 candidates who wrote examinations in the province. To the 16 151 candidates who did not make it we would like to say do not lose hope, this is not the end but a journey in which different strategies and more effort may be necessary to achieve a pass and pursue other developmental avenues. We note that the achievements in the results still reflect the legacy of the many years gender domination over females, national oppression over Africans in particular and Black people in general, class exploitation and super-exploitation, and associated geographical and human settlement patterns. However, we note an emerging shift in which schools and learners in previously disadvantaged areas are increasingly doing better. In this regard we note that the majority of top performing learners in gateway areas come from township schools, including the three learners who obtained 100% in Maths, 10 learners with full marks Physical Science, six in Accounting. We are looking forward to this trend being deepened towards equality in our society. As Young Communists we wish all learners in all grades the best in 2012. We shall intensify our Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign and continue to work together with other stakeholders in the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign to make a meaningful impact and address to the many challenges to education that need to be resolved. * * *Released on behalf of the Third YCLSA Gauteng Congress PEC by:*** * * *Provincial Secretary Alex Mashilo – 082 9200 308*** * *** * * *For further details also contact:*** * *** *Matankana Mothapo – Provincial Spokesperson** - **082 759 0900 *** * *** * * *Mokgadi Lesoka – Provincial Head of Basic Education Commission - *** *079 085 7407*** * * -- You are subscribed.
