*SACP statement on the passing away of Cde Sicelo Shiceka*

The SACP has received with shock and sadness the news of the passing away of Cde Sicelo Shiceka. Death has once more robbed the revolutionary forces and our country of a committed and dedicated servant.

Comrade Shiceka served the movement in various capacities and did so at each stage with passion, dedication and commitment not easily surpassed. He brought enthusiasm to his various deployments and was a joy to work with.

Comrade Sicelo Shiceka had at some stage been a member of our fighting Party and even served at the Gauteng PEC where he was elected as the Deputy Provincial Chairperson. He brought a lot of insights on how the Party, after its re-launch, should engage the mass movement that it helped to build underground. He was a dynamic link between our movement and its mass base, the people, where he excelled in mass work and loved this area of activity.

He was one of the most reliable and loyal cadres of the movement and in the process like all comrades in the frontline trenches, under direct enemy fire, would not retreat as they employed various measures in which others would have easily succumbed. He used this energy and passion to drive the turn-around strategy for local government in his capacity as Minister. We will never forget the passion and clarity with which he engaged our Central Committee in presenting his vision and strategy to transform local government.

Comrade Sicelo Shiceka committed mistakes like many cadres and was corrected, and like a true cadre accepted the corrective measures without sulking and hesitation. We miss such cadres during these trying times when our revolution is under relentless attack from the anti-majoritarian liberal offensive and reactionary forces.

The SACP dips its revolutionary banner and sends condolences to his family and relatives, friends, colleagues, comrades and the entire revolutionary movement that he served selflessly.

We wish to pay respects to all his contributions that helped to free our people and his immense intellectual wealth and commitment will be solely missed. We call on our cadres to give a befitting departure and carry on his fighting spear until a socialist South Africa is born.

Long live the revolutionary fighting spirit of comrade Sicelo Shiceka.
