The rift between the two leaders seems to be widening since Zille tore into Cosatu for, among other things, "obstructing job creation" last month. Helen Zille Zille said Vavi was constructing a power base for himself to challenge for the ANC presidency in 2017. Yesterday, the Sunday Times quoted Vavi as saying: "She is very, very power-hungry because she has this mistaken view ... that I can be recruited into the opposition ranks. She tried to recruit me, in person, to join the DA around the run-up to the local elections. She tried to send me SMSes. "It's this preoccupation of hers, even during the World Cup in June 2010. She asked for a formal meeting; I refused. She used every opportunity when she bumps into me ... to say 'Hey, hey, I want you to join. Can you imagine me and you, the power?" Vavi said. But Zille denied trying to recruit Vavi, saying that it would be "absurd" because Cosatu and the DA had different approaches to economic growth and job creation. "Zwelinzima certainly has a lively imagination. Next he'll probably say I asked him to marry me!" Zille hit back. "But I have never had a serious policy discussion with him. Anyone, with the vaguest understanding of politics, would get it." The debate then took to the social networking site Twitter. Gus Silber tweeted: "If Helen Zille & Zwelinzima Vavi did join forces, they would have a cool Brangelina name. Either ZwelinZille or HelenZima." *** From: http://www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2012/05/07/helenzima-spat-moves-to-absurd-round-two * -- You are subscribed. This footer can help you.
