*MEMORIAL SERVICE OF THE LATE VETERAN REVEREND MOTLALEPULA CHABAKU . *

The ANC Gauteng will pay its special tribute to Reverend Motlalepula
Chabaku in the Memorial Service to be held at Regina Mundi Church – Soweto
on 17th May 2012 (Thursday), 12h00. Mama Motlalepula was a Provincial
Executive Member of the ANC Veterans League in Gauteng. Mama Motlalepula
Chabaku died on the 11 May 2012 at her home in Rockville, Soweto. Mama
Motlalepula – the one who came with the Rain was a teacher, cleric and
respected urban horticulturalist. She was a great revolutionary, stalwart
of the people and a patriot. She worked with everyone and the entire
liberation movement. She belongs to a special generation of freedom
fighters who shaped many of the current young leaders. She joined the ANC
in the 1940’s and has led the movement with humour, wisdom, commitment
and integrity. ****

Mama Motlalepula was born 19th November 1933 in the “Western Native
Township” known as Newclare today. She was a Speaker in Free State
Parliament from 1994 until 1998. She was in the national parliament and
member of the Gauteng legislature from 2004 to 2009. She has travelled and
went to USA for studies after being harassed by the apartheid regime. She
has never abandoned her task of being a community activist. She was a
living member of the Lillian Ngoyi Executive that led 20 000 strong 1956
Women’s March against apartheid era pass laws. ****

She is known for her compassionate strength in community participation.
Her greatest passion in the golden days was the values of nature and the
healing powers of natural remedies. She acquired many diplomas in the
Humanities and Religious Institutions. Before her death, she was currently
organizing for the festival of 50 years of their removal by the apartheid
regime from Western Native Township to Rockville at the end of this month. *

She had an abundance of talent and experience in teaching on greening and
finding solutions to natural remedies. The movement has been blessed to
have her amongst those who celebrated the centenary of the ANC this year.***

Through her astute wisdom and good political advice, the ANC has always
found solace in her ideas and found solutions to the difficult questions
confronting our struggle today. Mama Motlalepula worked tirelessly for
progress in South Africa and has never been discouraged by her gender
status in place of patriarchy and racial oppression. ****

We salute her as the great leader of the movement. She was a humble servant
of the people and made many sacrifices for social justice. She fought for
equality, women’s right and the total transformation of the South African
society. ****
