YCLSA Press Statement June 6, 2012
YCLSA annoyed by the bungling of our National Anthem in London The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] is deeply annoyed by the bungling of our National Anthem last night in London. A version of "Die Stem" was played instead of "Nkosi Sikelela iAfrica" in a hockey match between Proteas women hockey team against Great Britain. As the YCLSA we are flabbergasted as to why the organizers of the competition still have a copy of the stem 18 years into our democracy. We see this as growing trend after Ras Dumisani also bungled our National Anthem in November 2009 in Paris. As the YCLSA we demand that Sascoc immediately launch an urgent inquiry regarding the matter. Those responsible must be dealt with harshly so that it sends a strong message to others who have no respect for our National Anthem or are contemplating disrespecting it.
