*ANC provides sound policy - veterans*

*SAPA, IOL, Johannesburg, 25 June 2012 *

Johannesburg - The African National Congress continues to provide sound policy for South Africa, the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) said in a statement on Sunday.

The MKMVA held a special national executive committee meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday and Sunday to deliberate on the ANC's policy conference, which begins on Tuesday.

"All these documents correctly capture the aspirations of our people, and it represents an honest assessment of the challenges facing our movement and society in general," the MKMVA said.

The association felt there was nothing wrong with the content of the discussion document entitled "The Second Transition: Building a National Democratic Society and the Balance Of Forces in 2012".

In the document, the ANC suggests entering a second era of democracy focusing on the social and economic transformation of South Africa over the next 30 to 50 years.

"There's nothing wrong with the content of this thesis, but further work needs to be done."

The association said economic transformation had to be deepened.

The overwhelming view of the MKMVA and its members was that it should be accorded the same status as other leagues within the ANC.

"The ANC must develop a coherent policy on exhumation, repatriation and reburials so as accord dignity and honour to its fallen heroes," the association said.

It would also fully co-operate with an internal audit to be conducted by the ANC. -- Sapa
