YCLSA Press statement 06 September 2012 YCLSA supports Woolworths BCEA and AA stance The Young Communist League of South Africa [Ufasimba] supports the initiative by retail company Woolworths of ensuring that they comply with the Employment Equity Act (EEA) and all other labour laws of the country in ensuring that they attain equity, redress and that their labour force is representative of the country's demographics in terms of race and gender. We believe that this initiative is long overdue and should be followed by all other industries and sectors in the economy which still lags behind "We call on Woolworths to urgently implement this measures and further call on SACCAWU and all other unions in the retail sector to support the initiatives" Buti Manamela YCLSA National Secretary said. "We hope that the implementation of the EEA will also be extended into granting unions organisational rights and comply with all other Labour Relations Acts(LRA) and Basic Conditions of Employment Act(BCEA)" Manamela said. For some time now, and for a long time to come (if Woolworths and others do not take this radical transformation), only one racial group will accrue the benefits and advantage of employment, which is the white race We are not and will never be anti-white, but we believe that the current demographics in the labour market, if not reversed as asserted by the Commission on Employment Equity (CEE) year after year, will fuel racial tensions and make our democracy a complete farce "We further call on Woolworths to make public their employment demographics; and hope that no white person currently employed will lose a job as a result of the companies’ compliance with Labour Laws" Manamela said. We condemn the intimidation and bullying tactics by the untransformed and racially obsessed Solidarity and Steve Hofmeyer who wants to keep our society divided and propagates for the rights not of all South Africans, but exclusively of the white race. We will tirelessly work to counter their calls for a boycott of Woolworths goods and stores Issued by the YCLSA HQ Mangaliso Stalin Khonza National Spokesperson Young Communist League of SA Cell: 083 617 5546 Tel(w): 011 339 3621 E-mail: [email protected]
