Communist University
*New Communist University “Products”* */_Existing CU courses_/*The Communist University courses have grown from a base of weekly reading-and-discussion study circles that have been running in Johannesburg since 2003.
Over the years, the courses have turned into ten-part sets, such that four ten-part courses could conveniently be covered within one year.
Presently, there are twelve of these ten-week courses. All twelve are available in the form of downloadable PDF files via this page: *https://sites.google.com/site/cu2012courses/*. Four more courses are in preparation (see below), so that there will soon be sixteen ten-week CU courses.
*/_New half-day format_/*During the second half of 2012, The Communist University had been called upon to facilitate and provide material for monthly Saturday morning political schools in the Oupa Phasha (Ekurhuleni) District of the SACP.
Four new courses, derived from the original (ten-week) course, have been designed, and will shortly be published on the Internet in a similar way to the other courses.
These half-day modules are conceived of within a four-hour envelope, programmed as three one-hour periods, with short breaks in between. There should be no “platform”. The Chairperson’s role is not to resolve, but to “keep the pot boiling”. The facilitator should not take up more than 25% of the time to introduce the material. Preferably, the material should be distributed in advance so that comrades have read it before the school begins.
These standardised modules can be joined together to provide the structure and the material for longer political schools.
Two modules could form a one-day school, and four could form a two-day school, for example. Four two-day schools could bracket the entire sixteen CU course-titles, as follows, for example: *_Freedom Struggle_* *_Theories of People’s Power_* *_Classics_* *_Practice_* */African Revolutionary Writers/* */Philosophy, Religion andClass Struggle/* */The Communist Basics/* */Induction/* */National Democratic Revolution/* */No Woman, No Revolution/* */Marx’s Capital, Volumes 1, 2 and 3/* */Education/* */Development, Rural and Urban/* */The State and Revolution/* */The Classics/* */Agitprop/*
*/Anti-Imperialism, War and Peace/*
*/Languages/*
*/_New CU ten-part courses_/*
The new courses, to be run for the first time in 2013, are Induction,
Education, Agitprop and Languages. “Induction” here means induction into
the ways, means and structures of the peoples’ organisations.
“Education” is the theory of pedagogy. “Agitprop” is all kinds of means
and media of communication. “Languages” is a guide to operating in a
country with 11 official, and other spoken, languages.
N.B.: “Induction” does not mean political education. To begin political education, use “The Communist Basics” (an existing CU course).
*/_Roll-out_:/**_New Half-day courses_:* Already in an advanced stage of preparation, and already “road tested”, are the following half-day courses:
*/No Woman, No Revolution/* */Philosophy, Religion andClass Struggle/*
*/Anti-Imperialism, War and Peace/*
*/The State and Revolution/**__*
These four courses will be published to the Internet shortly. If you
require any of them urgently, please request from
*[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>*. A
further ten half-day courses will be generated over the next twelve months.
These courses will typically consist of five or six booklets (electronically, five PDF files formatted for printing as A4-folding-to-A5 booklets). These will be one reader for each of the three sessions, containing selected original texts, and one booklet of introductions to all of these texts. There may also be a very short “warm-up” text. There will usually be a “further reading” text, for distribution at the end. Finally, there will be an A4 sheet listing the materials for the corresponding CU ten-week course, and giving the Internet link address for these, to give comrades access to a wider reading list.
*_New ten-part courses_:* The four new courses (*Induction*, *Education*, *Agitprop* and *Languages*) will be published at the rate of one per quarter in 2013.
