YCLSA Gauteng Province Statement YCLSA is disappointed and condemns apartheid-style forced removals. 12 November 2012 The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the province of Gauteng is extremely disappointed by the apartheid-style forced unleashed against our people by the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality and the Gauteng Housing Department. On Tuesday, 6 November 2012 the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality destroyed the shacks of our people, at 32 WF Nkomo Street/old Church Street. The people were given no notice and no alternative. They were expropriated of everything they had, except the clothes that they were wearing. In Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, the Gauteng Housing Department last week bulldozed tens of houses. The department is reportedly targeting about 113 houses with bulldozers. Where was the department when the people built their houses? There is absolutely no accountability. As with corruption which we condemn to the contempt it deserves, as the YCLSA we condemn the Gauteng housing department and the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality for being careless and brutal. We have no slightest doubt that had proactive care been exercised and people-centred avenues sought amicable solutions would have been found. We shall look at the political and economic motives behind the forced removals and characterise them further for what they are, over and above being apartheid-style forced removals in which bulldozer-preneurs accumulate money from the tears and sweat of our people. As the YCLSA we shall support our people with whatever means available at our disposal in fighting against the brutalities that they face.
