* SACP SACP Northern Cape Province Media Release, 11 November 2012 * ** ** ** *SACP Calls for the Immediate Re-Instatement of Workers at Kumba* ** **The SACP in the Northern Cape calls on Anglo American Corporations Kumba Resources to immediately reinstate ALL dismissed operators (Workers) at its mines in the province. Kumba must also accede to the legitimate demands of the workers for a living wage.
Kumba has been enjoying super profits over the past financial years to the extent that they were able to declare dividends twice in one year.
These super profits have been realised as a result of the super exploitation of worker at Kumba mines.
Anglo American Corporation as a multi-national company is paying some of its workers in Europe and elsewhere in the World much more than what it pays its South African work force.
It is therefore grossly unfair for SA mine workers to continue to receive slave wages.
We would also like to call on all mine workers to defend collective bargaining under the stewardship of the NUM against the counter-revolutionary onslaught by the mining bosses and their surrogate unions (AMCU) who masquerade as genuine representatives of the workers.
They are nothing else but opportunists who were established by the mining bosses through the chamber of mines with the sole purpose of undermining the unity of workers and especially to weaken the NUM.
Workers must never be fooled by those peace time HEROES. We must not forget that it is through the NUM that today mine workers amongst others are treated with respect, dignity and have better working conditions and living facilities.
The NUM has over the last thirty (30) years fought tirelessly and uncompromisingly, side by side with all progressive forces to bring about an end to Apartheid subjugation and colonial dispossession to ensure freedom for the people of our country as a whole.
An attack against the NUM is an attack against the UNITY and future of mine workers in our country.
