YCLSA Gauteng Province, Oupa Phasha District Condemns inhuman police conduct 2 March 2013, Public Statement The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in Gauteng Privince Oupa Phasha District condemns the behavior and the act of police officers videotaped dragging Mido Marcia handcuffed at the back of the police van and who later died at the Police Station in Daveyton. The video shows a man being handcuffed and dragged at the back of a police van which was speeding while he is still being handcuffed. Acts like this from our police remind us of the apartheid are wherein a black person was treated in the most inhumane manner. It is also this sort of acts that do not help with building a good relationship between the police and communities that they are supposed to serve. The behavior of the police in full view of the public demonstrates the total disregard of life.
We are calling upon the commissioner of the police to act swiftly. We are calling upon the department to take decisive action. We are further calling upon the department of Safety and Security to assist the family of the deceased in funeral arrangements. For safe communities we need the police who respect human life and communities who protect our constitution, fight crime and corruption and work together with the polilce.
