Comrade Benson and all revolutionaries
It is ironical that in my office displays three portraits on the wall.
On the right of the 3 is the picture of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, in the
middle is Comrade Chris Hani in combat and on the left it is Hugo
Chavez. Hugo was the only one of the three that was still alive until
recently. It is Hugo's picture that I got from Cde Current Rumbu,
laminated and he started to call me Chavez, a name that I have always
been shy of.
I have met Cde Chris personally wearing the MK uniform and giving him a salute and had tasted his political guidance during my induction as a Secretary of the SACP Ngqungqushe Technical College Branch in 1993. But it was after his death that I felt more a need to uphold his simple values and continue the struggle for the emancipation of the working class. Chris was a military man and a communist.
Tomorrow we will mourn the life of yet another military man and a socialist. It is again his untimely death that revokes the spirits of many military men that devoted their lives to the emancipation of the working class, Che being one of them.
I therefore welcome the invitation to complete this tribute to Hugo Chavez tomorrow and it is a great honour to share with the comrades the life of a true cadre that happened in our life time.
