YCLSA Press Statement 6 April, 2013
YCLSA statement on the 48th anniversary of the YCL of Cuba The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) salutes the Young Communist League of Cuba (also known as (Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas, UJC) on its 48th anniversary of establishment. As the YCLSA heads towards our 91st anniversary we continue to be inspired by the YCL of Cuba. It is through this ally of ours that we seek to emulate in our struggle for socialism. Guided by their slogan "study, work and rifle" the YCL of Cuba has proven that socialism does not come on a silver platter and while strong global forces continue to exploit the working class , we, as young people with vision and energy must increase our efforts to fight for it. Addressing the 45th anniversary of the YCL of Cuba, Cde President Raul Castro said "Young Cuban revolutionaries understand perfectly well that to preserve the Revolution and socialism, and to continue being dignified and free, they have many more years of struggle and sacrifices ahead of them…Cuba does not fear lies nor does it kneel to pressure, conditions or impositions, from whichever direction. It defends itself with the truth, which always, sooner rather than later, ends up being known.” These words encourage us to achieve more in our campaigns in South Africa against corruption and exploitative labour practices and for a free education and the emancipation of women from triple oppression. We are also inspired to increase our involvement in our internationalist campaigns and fight for an end to the economic blockade of Cuba and the freedom for the Cuban Five. The YCLSA has recognised that the solidarity struggle with the people of Palestine living under Israeli occupation and US imperialism as one of the definitive struggles of our time and we have increased our involvement through campaigns and political education. As we commemorate Chris Hani month in South Africa and the legacy of our beloved leader we wish our cdes in the YCL Cuba Hasta La Victoria Siempre on their anniversary.
