She knows that the people of makhaza in khayelitsha want the huge unaffordable
services debt, mainly water must be scrapped, fix the water leaks at house hold
level, and it will be then that the people of makhaza, and greater cape town
working class communities will be ready to pay, and to only pay for the water
they use. The people of makhaza and greater cape town working class communities
are demanding a stop in the installation of the water demand managent, a self
cutting device that cuts ones water once the free basic amount is finished and
this amounts to violation of the right to clean drinking water that is
entrenched in the constitution. Makhaza is shared by three ward councillors in
ward 95; 96 and 97 and they are all anc councillors and only one councillor so
far is supporting the call and the other has not be fully engaged and the other
has refused to engage on this matter as he had refused to come to meetings
invited by the community on the issues. The officials are also refusing to
engage and only telling the community to engage these three councillors. So at
times the anc councillors behave the same way the da does in terms of genuenly
engaging and addressing issues raised from below by the community. We will
continue educating ourselves in our edevours to clarify ourselves about issues
involved, we will also continue to organise ourselves in defense and advancing
our democratic rights such as the right to clean drinking water. We will also
resist and agitate against injustices advanced by any coucillor or party such
as the da and anc. We are calling for a public meeting in makhaza where the
three councillors, the city water officials and the community could all come
together and resolve on how the water education is to be done and who will do
it. We also call for the unconditional scrapping of all the water debts. We are
also calling for the fixing of the household water leaks and rejecting the
water demand management devices. We want the city of cape town to dialogue in
finding solutions to the problems faced by communities and stop implementing
unileteral false solutions such the water demand management devices. the
public meeting is taking place on wednesday in makhaza, khayelitsha wetland
park. We are holding the western cape water caucus in Danoon this thursday
where similar issues as makhaza are likely to emerge as it is the case with
many other communities in cape town. And we encourage communities to engage
their councillors and officials in resolving issues that are pertinent to the
communities. It should be registerd that this is no attempt to undermine any
councillor or political party, but rather a call for genuinely address of the
issues involved through dialogue and working together.

The DA is an agent of foreign capital and clearly this foundation is promoting
that imperial interest. Ours is to remain resolute and agitate the working
class
