Comrades I witnessed a horrible sight a week ago, seeing people being evicted from houses which have become their homes for the past 30 years, the arrogance of the "red ants" and police officers who were evicting these comrades I even had a one on one physical engagement with one of them not because I was obstructing them from doing their job as the sheriff claimed but because I was disgusted at the manner this whole situation was handled. It became evident to me that 20 years into democracy the capitalist system is still very much operational in this country. 20 years into democracy and 13 years after the closure of a BHP Billiton mine in Emalahleni former employees who have served the mine for +30 years, residents of a small village apparently owned by the mine were awakened with eviction letters escorted by police and red ants instructed by BHP Billiton. After contacting the ANC councillor and digesting the arrogant response he gave me and witnessing his absence in the whole matter I sat down and asked myself some questions, "Have we moved away from the objectives of the Freedom Charter as the ANC? The freedom charter states that "The land shall be shared amongst those who work it" What is the role of the ANC when people are being forcibly removed by capitalist on land they have dedicated half their lives to, whereas some were even born on that land. Was the freedom charter just a pipe dream? The silence of the ANC in my ward when BHP Billiton kicked out the people and "stole" their furniture was too loud. When we are quiet as the ANC when capitalists abuse our people, how then do we expect them to vote for us? Where is the ANC when it is needed. These are the kind of setbacks opposition parties will use against the ANC. If capitalists BHP Billiton can cast out people like dogs on a land they supposedly own then why can't we also take back our land forcibly from such capitalists? Kuyoze kube nini sincenga comrades whereas bona abancengi? Land expropriation without compensation is the resolution of the ANCYL not EFF or the likes, let us not be afraid to popularise it in the confines of the ANC, let us advance that agenda comrades lelizwe ngelethu.
