*Limpopo PYA Statement*

The Progressive Youth Alliance Summit in Limpopo ended its three days
summit on a higher note which was organized by African National Congress
Youth League Provincial Task Team [ANCYL PTT]. This was an historic summit
as it was the first in four years. It was held at the Moses Mabotha Civic
Hall in Fetakgomo Local Municipality in Sekhukhune District, from the 16th
to the 18th August 2013.

The PYA is comprised of ANCYL, South African Student Congress [SASCO],
Congress of South African Students [COSAS] and the Young Communist League
of South Africa [YCLSA].The summit resolved on a number of key issues which
it feels that government need to look into.

The following are the key issues resolved upon:

· That the Provincial Government should provide books to the
learners in time to avoid the problems faced in the previous year as this
has the potential to harm the future of the kids.

· Corruption in the provincial government should be dealt with
those found to be involved to commit corruption should be prosecuted
without fear and favour.

· Funding for youth cooperatives should be relaxed so that young
people could be able to access funding to start their own businesses which
will lead them to create jobs and at the same time reducing unemployment
among themselves.

· Resolved to convene Youth Economic Summit which will deal with
the problems of youth unemployment in the province following the dialogue
with ANC Deputy President. The
PYA feels strongly that the tenderization of the State is not sustainable.
It is therefore of the view that in the future the government should reduce
the way government does it procurement. The
government should be able to use its workforce than have to rely on tenders
and PYA believes that this is not difficult to implement.

· There will be a common manifesto by PYA structures but
contestation of elections will be done under the banner of SASCO. Therefore
there will be no contestation by PYA structures on Campuses in Limpopo in
Institutions of higher learning. The Summit also resolved that the National
Health Insurance that is led by the Department of Health through its
Minister Dr Aaron Motsaoledi should be supported. The PYA believes that the
NHI is going to help majority of our people who are mostly poor and black
who cannot access private hospitals because of their exorbitant prices.

· HIV/AIDS continues to be challenges facing the country. Even
though the Government has made huge progress through the Health Department
among them the big roll out of ARVs and increase in the number of people
testing for the pandemic and the reduction in infections, the PYA has
committed itself to increase the fight against the disease. This will be
done through having campaigns to encourage young people to test for the
pandemic, encouraging young people to Abstain, Condomise and be faithful to
their partners. - Adoption of the ANC election strategy and delivering of
the youth vote to the ANC in the 2014 National elections.

· Members of the alliance should continue to lobby the ruling party
in ensuring that youth development and challenges facing young people
remain a priority.
