ANC, SACP and COSATU are united

Therefore they are a 'faction', says Jim

The ANC and the South African Communist Party have been accused of taking
sides in the COSATU leadership battle by trade union Numsa's General
Secretary, Irvin Jim.

He says both organisations have decided to back COSATU president Sdumo
Dlamini.

He was responding to statements made at a Popcru meeting earlier this week
by the ANC's Gwede Mantashe and the SACP's Blade Nzimande.

Jim also poured water on behind-the-scenes mediation efforts by a group of
founding COSATU leaders.

Jim said the Popcru political school held earlier this week was merely a
platform to attack Zwelinzima Vavi's supporters.

He has also confirmed reports of mediation efforts by a group of old COSATU
leaders, but has expressed little confidence they will succeed in uniting
COSATU.

"We're not sure what kind of help they would bring because quite frankly the
issues have been driven," said Jim.

"From where we're sitting, we have witnessed both the ANC and the Communist
Party taking a factional side, siding with Sdumo openly both the SG of the
ANC and Blade Nzimande they've taken side(s)."

Gwede Mantashe's statement to COSATU, "You gave power to General
Secretaries.", has infuriated Jim.

"He has been a lone voice who speaks in the NUM, in the COSATU congresses,
that has been our own experience.

"Suddenly, now that things are not going his own way, he's launching an
attack."

Jim further added that his union will respond in full to the ANC and the
SAPC factional postures over the weekend.
