Leadership division and economy tops tripartite summit agenda SABC, Johannesburg, 30 August 2013 The tripartite alliance's long awaited summit will discuss leadership divisions and economic policy differences that have besieged it when it gets underway on Friday. The ANC, Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party will be meeting over the next three days as part of preparations for next year's elections. The divisions within COSATU over its suspended general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi will be discussed as part of the state of the alliance. COSATU affiliates are divided over Vavi's fate, with a threat of a split hanging over the federation. ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe says: "We will deal at principle level the implications of a divided federation - the divisions that have visited the ANC and make sense on how they had an impact on the alliance. A divided COSATU is not in the interest of the alliance, it's not a COSATU issue, it's an alliance issue."
