*YCLSA Press Statement* September 03, 2013
*YCLSA Supports both NUM and NUMSA strike action* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] supports both the National Union of Mineworkers [NUM] and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa [NUM] in the strike actions that they are currently undertaking. The NUM which represents over 80 000 miners in the gold sector will tonight begin with its scheduled strike action. We support the NUM in its pursuit of demanding an increase of R2300 for surface and opencast miners and R3000 for underground miners. Mineworkers are the most exploited by mining companies who refuse to increase the salaries of workers. As the YCLSA we support the call to revoke licenses of mining companies who threaten workers with retrenchment when workers demand decent wages. We also support Numsa in its strike action in the car manufacturing industry. A fitting settlement must be found to end this strike action that has entered its third week. We also support Numsa’s planned strike action against the Fuel Retailers Association [FRA] and Retail Motor Industry [RMI] employers. These employers who are also doing business in the petrol station, car dealerships and car component manufacturers have been stalling in increasing wages and improving benefits of workers. As the YCLSA we will always be at the forefront of workers struggle and well tirelessly struggle with workers to have decent working conditions.
