YCLSA Gauteng Statement
Congratulates Vuyo Mhlakaza as prospective SABC board member

18 September 2013
The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the province of
Gauteng congratulates its chairperson who is also an ANCYL activist serving in
its National Task Team Vuyo Mhlakaza for being selected as part of the twelve
names of prospective SABC board members which have been released by the
Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications. A graduate from the
Tshwane University of Technology with experience in governance obtained from
different appointments and serving in various institutions, Vuyo possesses
invaluable potential and capacity to make a meaningful contribution in bringing
about a paradigm shift in governance at the SABC and in taking the public
broadcaster to greater heights.

In particular the SABC needs to be repositioned and transformed into a genuine
public broadcaster that is not used to serve sectional interests of either
political factions or certain branches of capital. Radical changes would be
required in the governance, management and administration in order to ensure
that the SABC serves the needs of the public and is financially healthy. Not
only increased funding is necessary but good governance is fundamentally
required to reposition the SABC accordingly.
