30 September 2013 FAWU members have started with strike action in support of their demands About 2 200 members of the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU), employed by the beer division of the South African Breweries (SAB) Ltd, have started an indefinite strike action as from the 30th September 2013. This follows failure to reach an agreement on wages, working conditions and benefits between FAWU and SAB management. Chief among the dispute issues are the following - Wage increment and its structure: FAWU members want a 9% increment across the board (ATB) yet the employer offer 7%, with a split of 60% of this going to ATB and non-guaranteed 40% payable as performance pay - Members want equal participation in the Board of Trustees of Provident Fund and Medical Scheme through people they deploy On the 1st October 2013, the leadership of FAWU will be addressing striking workers as follows - Alrode in Alberton: FAWU President Attwell Nazo and General Secretary Katishi Masemola at 10h30 - Rosslyn in Pretoria: FAWU 1st Deputy President Raymond Mnguni and Deputy General Secretary Moleko Phakedi at 12h00 - Randburg SAB Call Centre: Deputy General Secretary Moleko Phakedi at 09h30 On Wednesday the 2nd October 2013 the leadership will address workers as follows - Newlands in Cape Town: FAWU General Secretary Katishi Masemola at 11h00 - Prospecton in Durban: Moleko Phakedi at 11h00 - East London: Raymond Mnguni at 11h00 - Port Elizabeth: Attwell Nazo at 11h00 For more information kindly call the General Secretary, Katishi Masemola, at 082 467 2509 or Deputy General Secretary, Moleko Phakedi, at 082 492 5111 Katishi Masemola General Secretary -- -- You are subscribed.
