I think that any oppressed person who celebrates Guy Fawkes is really off his rocker and has bought into the imperialist deception and propaganda. Moreover the celebration of the death of a human is in itself as inhuman as the British Empire was to us Africans. We have really been deceived and love it. F**k the empire I say .. they should have burnt parliament perhaps our history would have been better. Also we burn an effigy of the poor guy no sir that is terrible in terms of what it symbolises. But this goes for other holidays as well; we find black people in America and now Africa rushing off to celebrate thanksgiving but the question is who is giving thanks and what for? Thanksgiving is for the theft from, and murder of, the indigenous Indians by the white America in its drive to steal the peoples land. When the Indians rebelled they were decimated and even had their head chopped off and stuck on stakes. Kids would run around the stakes or throw stones at the heads. What kind of people were those? What kind of people are we if we celebrate the atrocious behaviour of the same oppressor who enslaved us and stole our lands too. Is this any celebration for the oppressed who should instead have lamented the death and theft of the lands of indigenous peoples even if that crime was in other lands. If you are celebrating either of these festivals or holidays truly you are a victim of mental slavery and your ancestors should be ashamed of you. Sometimes we are so intent on mimicking our oppressors that we buy anything that they sell us and in the process lose our souls and who we are. We need to get rid of these holidays that undermine the oppressed and celebrate the oppressor. We must celebrate our freedom not our enslavement; the oppressor must leave and we must decolonise our minds if we are to become who we really are; freemen and free women. Pay us our reparation British and American scoundrels! Take your holidays and celebrations and leave.
