Central Committee

SACP Central Committee briefing:

Press Conference Tomorrow, 1 June 2014; 12h30 PM

Saturday, 31 May 2014 - Johannesburg

The quarterly Central Committee Plenary Session underway in Braamfontein,
Johannesburg, is progressing successfully towards its completion; it is
expected to adjourn by 12h15 tomorrow afternoon. The Central Committee is
the highest decision-making body of the Party in between National Congresses
which convene once every five years. It has been meeting since Friday, 30
May 2014, to assess the Party Programme: developing the SACP as the vanguard
of the working class, advancing and deepening the National Democratic
Revolution as the road to - and leading the struggle for - Socialism.

In this context, the Central Committee analysed and discussed:

* the outcome of the Fifth democratic general election, and, linked
with this, the strategic and policy content of our second, more radical
phase of transition;

* the role and influence of the working class and Party
organisation, its leaders and members in all key sites of struggle and
power, namely the State, Community, Economy, Workplace, Ideological terrain,
International terrain, and the Environment;

* developments in the mining sector in general and the Rustenburg
platinum belt in particular;

* the state of the labour movement in general and COSATU in
particular;

* the state of the South African and world economy and consequent
socio-political relations;

Guided by the outcome of the Political Session that started yesterday,
Friday 30 May 2014, the Central Committee is currently discussing
Organisational Policy and the state of Party organisation. This includes the
Alliance and the Mass Democratic Movement as led by the ANC vis-à-vis the
continually changing political dynamics in our country and internationally.

The outcome of the Central Committee, with focus of key decisions, will be
announced in a public statement at a Press Conference scheduled as follows:

Date: Tomorrow, Sunday 1 June 2014

Time: 12h30 PM

Venue: Parktonian Hotel (120 De Korte Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg)

The Press Conference will be addressed by SACP National Officials:

* General Secretary Comrade Blade Nzimande, re-appointed Minister of
Higher education and Training;

* First Deputy General Secretary Comrade Jeremy Cronin, re-appointed
Deputy Minister of Public Works;

* Second Deputy General Secretary Comrade Solly Mapaila, one of the
full-time Central Committee members;

* National Chairperson Comrade Sezeni Zokwane, new Minister of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry;

* Deputy National Chairperson Comrade Thulas Nxesi, re-appointed
Minister of Public Works; and

* National Treasurer Comrade Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Member of

There cannot be any doubt that the SACP is growing both in membership and
influence...
