SACP-COSATU Media Statement, 18 August 2014 COSATU-SACP Limpopo Office Bearers' Bilateral The Limpopo provincial office bearers of the SACP and COSATU met in a bilateral on Thursday, 14th August 2014. The agenda included discussions on the need to strengthen the relations between two progressive axes of the left, the development and implementation of joint programmes and campaigns and the need for us to continuously do an analysis on the developments within the ANC and jealously defend our democratic gains. On strengthening relations The meeting noted weaknesses in relation to the two structures not working closely and complementing each other and therefore resolved as follows: a. To commit to maintain high level of unity and increase collaboration between the two formations b. To ensure continued bilateral as a way to ensure common approach and posture toward the political and socio-economic challenges in the province; c. Revive our Joint Commissions to deal with specific matters of common interests d. To consult each other on strategic issues of the alliance and government in the province; e. To engage the ANC on the need to involve the two structures on deployment decision. On joint programmes and campaign The meeting agreed that at the centre of our programmes and campaigns must be the need to fundamentally work towards the implementation of second phase of our transition which seeks to radically transform the economy in favour of the working class and the poor. This also involves: a. Continuing the fights against corruption within the provincial government and municipalities; b. The tenderization of the state; c. The fight against labour brokers and d. The establishment of cooperatives for the unemployed masses of our province The meeting further mandated the secretariat to develop programmes and campaigns to actualize the issues as raised above. On the analysis of the ANC in Limpopo The meeting re-affirmed the stance of the two organizations to continue supporting the ANC and its government in the province. The two structures also cautioned against being complacent and agreed to continuously fight for the ANC to remain bias towards the workers and the poor in the province. The meeting further agreed that the ANC must always be reminded that its core mandate is to work towards the realization of the objectives of the National Democratic Revolution by ensuring the provision of basic services to our communities in the province.
