Bilateral Statement

Consolidating working class unity towards the radical second phase of our
transition

The South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Congress of South African
Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Eastern Cape held a constructive and meaningful
bilateral meeting on the 29 August 2014 in East London.

The meeting was held as the means of solidifying the programmatic relations
between these two left axis and long standing allies. For we understand our
programmatic relations anchored on Marxist-Leninist tools of analysis are
the hope at the hands of the working class in our country.

The meeting reaffirmed the outcomes of the bilateral between our formations,
the SACP and COSATU National Office Bearers. We further committed our
formations to work together in defining the context and content of the
radical second phase of the transformation. The bilateral meeting further
committed these left axis to build the unity of the working class through
concrete joint campaigns that include amongst others the banning of labour
brokers, work for the acceleration of land and agrarian reform as part of
our economic transformation and food security.

The meeting further expressed its support for the provincial government to
drive the re-industrialization of the province and build its manufacturing
capacity to decisively fight poverty and the creation of work. The two
formations also committed themselves to a fearless fight against corruption
as it constitutes the immediate threat to taking forward our revolution.

The bilateral meeting also agreed to convene a joint political school as
part of the efforts to deepen a shared understanding on the burning
questions facing the working class here at home and globally. The two
formations also committed to contribute into building a working class led
movement as part of our collective efforts to reclaim our villages and
township, consolidating our traditional base.

The meeting closed on a high note and renewed commitment to defend our broad
movement against the onslaught of imperialism and its agents.
