South African Communist Party, North West Province, 1 September 2014 PEC Statement The South African Communist Party Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) met on 31 August 2014 in Matlosana to assess the state of the organisation and to prepare for the Party's Membership Month and the 2014-2015 Red October Campaign. These are important activities in the Party's annual programme of action. In line with the Party programme on the state, the PEC dealt with matters of governance and in this regard also assessed the budgets presented in the North West Provincial Legislature by various departments. Growth of Party organisation The PEC was pleased with the growth of the Party in the province which continues by leaps and bounds. This is an indication of the confidence that our people have in socialism as the sustainable solution to the problems facing humanity and the vanguard role of the Party. Serve the people! We are confident that the government as chosen by our people during the May 7th General Election is on the correct path towards addressing the problems of poverty and unemployment. We are however concerned in areas where the local government is not moving with the necessary speed to instil confidence and call on the relevant department to act decisively. Local government is at the kernel of the consolidation of the national democratic revolution and therefore the government of the people as led by the ANC should act without fear or favour on cases where risk is identified. The PEC congratulate the ANC leadership for acting with decisiveness when this was necessary. Red Card to corruption! We also congratulate the MEC of public works for exposing corruption in the department. Corruption has compromised the delivery of roads in the areas of Moretele. We are fully behind the MEC, who is also the Provincial Secretary of the SACP. We are confident that under his leadership the corruption that has dogged the department over the years will be dealt a blow. Those who are responsible must be followed and brought to book for the crime that they have committed. Directors of those companies that have benefitted must be exposed and be listed nationally as unscrupulous tenderpreneurs, and further steps should be taken against them. Repatriation of the remains of our leaders, Comrades Moses Kotane and JB Marks The PEC noted that the process has been set in motion for the repatriation of the remains of our leaders Comrades Moses Kotane and John Bevear Marks who were laid to rest in Russia. The two leaders will be re-buried in South Africa and our province, in Phela and Ventersdorp respectively. We welcome this initiative by government, as requested by the families. We also take this opportunity to thank the Russian people for preserving this international icons with the highest respect well deserved. The PEC called for the resolution that was taken by the local council to rename Ventersdorp to JB Marks to be implemented without any delay. It will also be beneficial to rename the province of the North West to Moses Kotane in recognition of the outstanding work this finest revolutionary of our movement has played in our struggle for national liberation and social emancipation. We shall be engaging with the alliance partners in this regard to follow all guidelines as stipulated in the constitution. Red October Campaign The SACP will during its annual Red October Campaign focus on intensifying the Know your Neighbourhood and the Financial Sector Transformation campaigns. The Know your Neighbourhood Campaign will give us an opportunity to consolidate our campaign towards the delivery of services to our people and to prepare for the forthcoming local government elections to take place in 2016. We will be pressing on with the Financial Sector Campaign by canvassing the masses of our people to demand that the insurance companies declare where their monies are being invested to redirect the resources to productive and developmental activities to benefit the people instead of the financial market interests. This campaign will include various organisations. Issued by SACP North West Province Contact: Pat Motubatse, First Deputy Provincial Secretary, 071 186 0601 -- -- You are subscribed.
