29 October 2014 ANC Statement on the Passing of President Sata of Zambia The African National Congress conveys condolences to the family of and the people of Zambia on the loss of its 5th President, Michael Sata who passed on yesterday in London. Zambia has lost not only a President who prioritized the poor but also led the Zambian government at a time when the continent is working to reclaim its place in the global governance and economy. Mr Sata was popular for his modesty and focus on the poor and disadvantaged. His record in the Zambian government, having played different roles prior to ascending to Presidency, speaks of an individual who served his people, country and the continent with distinction. We believe that the many initiatives he had undertaken to reposition the Zambia economy will be pursued for the benefit of the people of Zambia.
