SADTU Limpopo Province, 12 January 2015 Passing Away of Limpopo Education MEC SADTU notes with great sadness the passing away of MEC of Education Mrs Thembi Nwendamutshu The Union received the news about the passing away of Mrs Nwendamutshu the MEC of Education with shock and great sadness. SADTU takes this opportunity to pass condolences to the Nwendamutshu family, Head of Department, Provincial Administration and the ANC in Limpopo. Mrs Thembi Nwendamutshu was appointed MEC of Education after the national elections held in May 2014. The Union had a brief interaction with the MEC since her appointment and it was our conviction that she was the right incumbent for the position. This conviction was based on her attitude to listen attentively to all stakeholders and a high level of stakeholders' involvement in decision making processes. SADTU was impressed by her first road-show conducted through-out the province where she clearly articulated transformatory education policies and strategies without mincing words. Previous road-shows were unfortunately used not to articulate education policy changes but reduced to military battle fields to attack the Union and teachers in general. The MEC will be remembered in SADTU circles for the moving and clarion speech she rendered during our Provincial Conference. The speech focussed on real transformation agenda and appreciated the fact that education transformation would never take place without the involvement of teachers. She emphasised that teachers played an important role in the delivery of education. She was a leader who would listen to advises and committed to take on board stakeholders in decision making processes characterised by her positive attitude and always taking time to study the environment and dynamics within the system. It is against this background that we pass our condolences to the family, Education Department and ANC. May her soul rest in peace.
