Stalwarts finally returning home

Editorial, The New Age, Johannesburg, 25 February 2015

The struggle against apartheid produced many wonderful heroes.

Some of these selfless freedom fighters were scattered around the world
fulfilling their obligations to the liberation of our country and sadly died
in far flung outposts.

Some of course died before the work they were engaged in bore the fruit of
our new democratic dispensation.

So it is extremely heart-warming that such towering figures as Moses Kotane
and JB Marks are returning from their long sojourn in Moscow once and for
all.

Marks died in 1972 and Kotane in 1978. The case of Moses Kotane's final
journey is made even more poignant by the fact that his wife, at 103 years
old, is still alive to welcome him home.

The life stories of the two stalwarts are deeply etched into our history as
they made a huge contribution to ensuring that we all now live in a free and
just South Africa.

Through the sacrifices they made they will be a constant inspiration to us.
