'SGB elections should not be used for SADTU issues' SADTU has warned its leadership in EC against using the ongoing SGB elections to settle political scores. Govan Whittles, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 10 March 2015 The South Africa Teachers Union (SADTU) has warned its provincial leadership in the Eastern Cape against using the ongoing School Governing Body (SGB) elections to settle political scores. The union says it won't hesitate to institute disciplinary action against any of its members found doing so. The national school governing body elections were launched by Education Minister Minister Angie Motshekga in Polokwane last week and will run until 28 March. SADTU's provincial leadership has been disbanded for apparently supporting ousted president Thobile Ntola and a task team has been sent in by the union to run its structures. SADTU General-Secretary Mugwena Maluleke says his members should not dare to disrupt the current process. "It has nothing to do with the problems that members are experiencing within the organisation. So SADTU's problems must be resolved within SADTU's structures and not use threats such as disrupting our school governing bodies."
